CONSONANT SPECTROGRAMS

Felicity Cox

Sample Single Syllable Spectrograms

Sample spectrograms are provided for the following words to assist you in your understanding of consonant spectral cues. None of these spectrograms have been segmented or labelled but they provide examples of consonants and consonant clusters in the simple context of isolated monosyllabic words. Careful examination of these simple spectrograms will assist you in segmenting the (much more complex) spectrogram of a sentence.

In each case the sound files have also been provided, and you can hear the sounds by clicking anywhere on the spectrogram graphic. Click on any word below to view the spectrogram of that word, or click on the first word "bake" and work you way through the spectrograms using the forward and backward arrows.
