Fresh hostilities break out. Detachments from all regiments sent into
the interior.
27 October (Monday):
Execution [in Colombo] of Private John Jenny (73rd) for striking his superior officer Captain Haddon Smith (c.1770-1840).
December:
Headquarters of the battalion transferred to Trincomalee.
Arrival at Trincomalee of contingent of 2/73rd from Britain. The 2nd Battalion of the 73rd was disbanded on 4 May 1817 and 311 non-commissioned officers and privates embarked for Ceylon. There were also a number of Waterloo veterans amongst these volunteers.
