- Dr Tanya Evans honoured with the NSW Premier's History Award in the Community and Regional History category for her book Fractured Families: Life on the Margins in Colonial New South Wales (NewSouth, 2015).

MARCH
- Dr Tanya Evans elected president of the History Council of NSW.
- Applications are invited for three PhD scholarships associated with Centre for Media History members' research. (1) A full-time domestic PhD Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) is available in the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies associated with Professor Bridget Griffen-Foley’s ARC Future Fellowship, ‘Switched-on Audiences: Australian Listeners and Viewers’. It is hoped the successful domestic applicant will work on an aspect of twentieth-century Australian radio or television reception history. Proposals for an Australian newspaper or magazine reception historical study will also be considered. (2) A full-time joint international student PhD Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES) is available under the same project. The recipient will be jointly enrolled in both MMCCS and with the School of History, University of St Andrews, Scotland. The supervisor at St Andrews will be Dr Chandrika Kaul. It is hoped the successful applicant will work on a comparative study of radio and/or television audiences in Australia and Britain. Proposals for a comparative study of newspaper or magazine reception history will also be considered. (3) A full-time domestic PhD scholarship is available in the Department of Modern History, Politics and International Relations under Emeritus Professor Murray Goot's project 'What Australia Thinks: A History of Australian Public Opinion Polls'. Candidates interested in any aspect of the project, including candidates interested in comparing the history of polling in Australia with that of other countries, are encouraged to apply.
JANUARY
- Harvey Broadbent appointed Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division. The award citation stressed Mr Broadbent’s significant service in the literary arts as an author and publisher, to the television industry as a producer and to tertiary education.
- Brian Johns AO, in whose honour the Inaugural Brian Johns Lecture was presented by ABC managing director Mark Scott in September 2015, died on New Year's Day. Tributes have been led by Ed Campion, Julianne Schultz and Eric Walsh, with an obituary by Damien Murphy. The 2016 Brian Johns Lecture will be supported by the Copyright Agency.

DECEMBER
- The CMH co-convened the 9th Australian Media Traditions Conference: Soundings and Sightings, held at the National Film and Sound Archive on 3-4 December.
NOVEMBER
- Dr Jeannine Baker and Dr Justine Lloyd have been awarded grants by the Faculty of Arts Visiting Scholar to bring out Dr Kate Murphy from Bournemouth University, and to host an interdisciplinary ‘Gender, Media and Labour’ workshop, in February 2016.
- Director Professor Bridget Griffen-Foley has been awarded the 2015 Award for Excellence by the Australasian Sound Recordings Association for an 'outstanding contribution to the documentation of Australian radio history'.
- Dr Tanya Evans has been awarded an honorary fellowship at the State Library of NSW for her OSP project, “Keeping it in the Family”. The Construction of Historical Consciousness among Family Historians in Australia, England and Canada from 1900 to the Present.

- Professor Kathryn Millard's film Shock Room awarded the Best Australian Feature Documentary award at the 2015 Antenna Documentary Film Festival, 18 October 2015.
SEPTEMBER
- Dr Jeannine Baker's new book Australian Women War Reporters: Boer War to Vietnam published by NewSouth Publishing and launched by veteran ABC Foreign Correspondent Ginny Stein at the Rose Scott Women Writers' Festival at the Women's Club in Sydney, 19 September 2015.
- Dr Jeannine Baker awarded a place in the Australian Feminist Studies Mentoring Programme for New Academic Writers for her proposed article, '"Woman to Woman": Irene Greenwood and her audience'.
AUGUST
- Associate Member, Associate Professor Michelle Arrow has been awarded a National Library of Australia Fellowship, 21 August 2015.
- Professor Bridget Griffen-Foley has been appointed to the national panel which will chose the first candidates for induction to the Australian Media Hall of Fame, 11 August 2015.
JULY
- Associate Member Peter Doyle's new novel The Big Whatever , set in Sydney during 1973 and published by Verse Chorus Press, received its international launch on 14 July 2015.
JUNE
- Dr Tom Murray has been awarded $120,000 from Screen Australia under its Documentary Production - Producer Program for his documentary Singing the Country, 16 June 2015.
APRIL
- A funding bid to the University of Hamburg for a program of activities (2015-18) between the Research Centre for the History of Broadcasting in Northern Germany and the CMH has been successful.
MARCH
- Dr Willa McDonald awarded 'Article of the Year' by the International Association of Literary Journalism Studies Awards Committee for her article ''A Vagabond: The Literary Journalism of John Stanley James', published in Literary Journalism Studies, Vol. 6, No. 1, Spring 2014.
FEBRUARY
- The CMH hosted the launch of the Colonial Australian Literary Journalism database, developed by Associate Member Dr Willa McDonald. It has been set up as part of a larger project that is working towards defining Australian Literary Journalism and tracing its history from the time of modern settlement to today. - The CMH is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the 9th Australian Media Traditions conference, to be held at the National Film & Sound Archive, Canberra, 3-4 December 2015. Under the conference theme of 'Soundings and Sightings', proposals for papers and panel presentations are invited on all aspects of media history, including journalism, audiences, technology, photography, advertising, public relations and media institutions. 16 February 2015.
- Associate Member Harvey Broadbent's new book Gallipoli: the Turkish Defence, (Melbourne University Press), was launched by Dame Marie Bashir at a special event which also saw the opening of the Perceptions of War exhibition at the Macquarie Art Gallery, 11 February 2015.

NOVEMBER
- CMH Deputy Director Professor Murray Goot has been awarded an ARC Discovery Grant for 'The People's Voice?' A History of Public Opinion Polling in Australia', 5 November 2014.
OCTOBER
- The CMH is pleased to announce that it will be offering the opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to spend time in residence at Macquarie University as part of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada collaboration. - CMH Director Professor Bridget Griffen-Foley has been awarded the Honour of Honorary Fellow of the State Library of New South Wales 'for significant professional achievements and contributions to scholarship on Australian media history and to the Library Council of New South Wales and as an advocate for the State Library and its fellowships program', 21 October 2014.
- Richard Aedy launched A Companion to the Australian Media, edited by CMH Director Professor Bridget Griffen-Foley, at the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Sydney, 7 October 2014.

- Associate Member, Associate Professor Michelle Arrow, together with her collaborators, was awarded the Multimedia History Prize of the 2014 NSW Premier's History Awards, for the ABC Radio National/Hindsight documentary Public Intimacies: The Royal Commission on Human Relationships, 5 September 2014.
JUNE
- Associate Member Dr Tom Murray has been awarded the Australian Academy of Humanities 2014 Max Crawford Medal. The biennial award recognises outstanding achievement in the humanities by young Australian scholars currently engaged in research, and whose publications contribute towards an understanding of their discipline by the general public. The award will be conferred at the Annual Fellows' Dinner on 21 November 2014. Further details of the award in relation to Dr Murray's current research can be found here.
- Dr Tom Murray has also been shortlisted for the 2014 Macquarie University Research Excellence ECR Award.
MAY
- Associate Member Dr Jeannine Baker has been awarded the 2013 Dennis-Wettenhall Prize for the best Australian history postgraduate thesis at the University of Melbourne.

- CMH members have been awarded the following Australian Research Council grants and fellowships: Discovery Grants for 'Cultural Conversations: A History of ABC Radio National' (Virginia Madsen, Bridget Griffen-Foley, John Potts and John Tebbutt) and 'The Australian Book Industry: Authors, Publishers and Readers in a Time of Change' (David Throsby); Future Fellowship for 'Switched-on Audiences: Australian Listeners and Viewers' (Bridget Griffen-Foley); and Discovery Early Career Researcher Award for 'The Other War' (Tom Murray).

AUGUST
- Professor Bridget Griffen-Foley, Dr Virginia Madsen and Dr Maya Ranganathan hosted a visit by Dr Chandrika Kaul of the University of St Andrews to the Centre
- Professor John Potts is co-curator of the exhibition Unbound which explores the book in relation to art. The official opening is to be conducted by Professor Robert Adamson, CAL Chair in Poetry, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Technology Sydney, on 7 August at Macquarie University Art Gallery.
JULY
- In the course of researching her entry on 'women's pages' for A Companion to the Australian Media, CMH Associate Member Dr Justine Lloyd has developed a public list in the National Library's Trove searchable database of digitised newspapers, which is archived here with her research notes.
- Congratulations to three CMH Associate Members on their recent success, together with their research partners, in gaining research funding. Professor John Potts has secured an ARC Linkage grant for 'When Science Meets Art: an Environmental Portrait of the Shoalhaven River Valley.' Dr Peter Doyle has been awarded a Faculty of Arts grant to fund a research workshop on the cultural afterlife of criminal evidence. Dr Justine Lloyd and her partners have received Faculty of Arts themed research workshop grants for two events. The first will explore the 'The Disjunctures and Continuities of Home'; the second, 'Developing interdisciplinary methodologies to research listening'.
- Congratulations to CMH member Dr Tanya Evans for being Highly Commended in the John Barrett Award (Open Category) for her article last year in the Journal of Australian Studies.

- Maree Delofski has been shortlisted, with colleagues Nick Franklin, Mark Gregory & Timothy Nicastry, for the NSW Multimedia History Prize for Isle of Denial: William Cuffay in Van Diemen's Land broadcast by Hindsight, ABC Radio National.
OCTOBER
- Michelle Arrow has been promoted to Associate Professor.
- Margaret Van Heekeren has been promoted to Senior Lecturer at Charles Sturt University. Margaret will also be graduating with a Vice-Chancellor's Commendation for her PhD thesis.
SEPTEMBER
- Liz Gould, Sandey Fitzgerald and Mandy Kretzschmar received their PhDs.
APRIL
- Sofia Erikisson, Tom Murray and Don Perlgut received their PhDs. Dr Murray was awarded the Vice Chancellors' Commendation for Academic Excellence for his thesis. Dr Perlgut was invited to deliver the graduating address.
MARCH
- The Media Archives Project database and the new Australian Media History database were launched by media buyer and philanthropist Mr Harold Mitchell AC, at Foxtel on 28 March. View Sky's Media Week report and interviews here.

- Dr Tanya Evans has been elected Vice-President of the History Council of NSW.
JANUARY
- Through the Media Archives Project Database and the Australian Media History Database, the Centre has participated in a successful bid for $1.33m in 2012-13 for Humanities Networked Infrastructure (HuNI): Unlocking and Uniting Australia's Cultural Data from NeCTAR (National eResearch Collaboration Tools and Resources).
