Clinical immersive training for health professionals
The clinical simulation lab at the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences uses a bespoke setup of cutting-edge technology to deliver life-like clinical simulations to both students and healthcare professionals. Including both an operating theatre and two-bed hospital ward, the lab can be adapted to suit any clinical training scenario required.
Immersive Simulation is an integral part of the Macquarie MD and Doctor of Physiotherapy programs at Macquarie University. The clinical simulation lab provides students with invaluable skills that translate directly to real life situations they may face as clinicians; it allows them to convert theory into practise and ‘make mistakes’ in a safe environment. Doctors in training and other practising healthcare professionals have the opportunity to hone their clinical skills and participate in human factors training to improve communication and team work skills.

General facilities
- Operating theatre and a 2 bedded hospital room in the one simulation lab allows concurrent simulations to be run with individual control
- 2 x lower fidelity simulation rooms available external to the main simulation lab
- Access to formal lecture space
- Large touch-screen displays for interactive teaching sessions.
- Wall mounted patient monitors in all rooms
- Streaming and recording function available for debrief scenarios
- State of the Art touchscreen displays to send and receive video and audio to and from all rooms
- Ultra- clear audio
- Variety of part task trainers (including IDC, venepuncture/cannulation, rectal, gynaecological, abdominal).
