June June 3. For the last ten or twelve Days we had very disagreeable unpleasant weather; and have been teased and tormented with calms, rain and extreme hot close sultry weather. We have now, however, got at length into the South-East-Trade-Wind, and are making good progress in our Voyage. June 6. I have entreated of Sir Jno. Mc.Pherson to recommend my Broyr. Charles to H.R. Highness The Duke of Sussex for the Lieut. Colonelcy of the Highland Legion which H.R. Highness purposes to raise for Government. — I have the same time advised my Brother to write himself to both Sir Jno. Mc.Pherson and the Earl of Breadalbane to solicit their good offices with the Duke of Sussex to move H.R. Highness to recommend him for the Lt. Colcy. of the Highland Legion. I have likewise desired my Broyr. Charles to make particular enquiry respecting Malcolm Mc.Quarie of the 2d. Battn. of the 26th. Regt.; - it being my intention to recommend him for a Commission in case he should prove worthy of my Patronage. June 20. June 21. I visited my old friends Govr. Dundas and his Family, and Mr. Oliphant and his sister on board the Cumberland; Colonel Norman Mc.Alister, and Lieut. Colonel Darling on board the Dorsetshire; - and Mrs. Reide and Capt. Reaban on board the Castle-Eden. — I had the pleasure of finding all those friends in good health; - and having called also along-side of the Admiral Gardiner to put my Letters for England on board of her, I returned to the City of London again, after a very hot Water Excursion, about 2,o'Clock. At Sunset the Adml. Gardiner Indiaman parted Company by Signal from the Admiral for St. Helena, being bound for that Island with Stores.
