May 7.
Tuesday. — We are making as yet but slow Progress in our Voyage,
having had almost constant contrary winds ever since we cleared the
English coast. We have, however, hitherto had the good fortune to escape
falling in with the Enemy's Fleet. — Another of our large Cruizing
Frigates came into our Fleet this forenoon. — She spoke the Admiral,
and confirms the former news of the French Fleet being at Sea. — This
Frigate soon parted with us, giving us no opportunity of writing any
Letters by her to our friends.
This day two Years I landed in England from India ! —

Saturday. — We are still making but slow progress in our Voyage.
— It being almost a perfect calm this morning, I accompanied
Capt. Landon in his Boat to visit Mrs. Reide & her Family on board the Castle
Eden Indiaman at 11,O'Clock, and returned again to our own Ship
in about an hour. —
May 19.
Sunday. — At Noon today we were in Latd.
17º 26' North and abreast and in sight of the Island of Saint
Anthony, the westernmost of all the Cape de Verd Islands near the
Coast of Africa. St. Anthony is a very barren
wild mountainous Island. — We passed within 8 or 9 miles of it.
— we are getting on tolerably well with the favor of the North
East Trade Wind. —

Tuesday. — It having been intimated to the Fleet by the Admiral
that the Lady Castlereagh Indiaman would part Company and proceed direct
to St. Helena tomorrow, I wrote Letters of this date to go by her to my
dearest Elizabeth, and my Brother Charles — which will be forwarded to
England from St. Helena.
