Arrived from England The General Elliot/ East Indiaman, Commanded by Capt. Drummond, being the first arrival from Europe this Season; I received no letters by her; she brings certain accounts of the Kings dangerous Indisposition or madness; of which we had received imperfect accounts some time before. — A Ship arrived from Bengal this day also which brought us the letters that came out in the Swallow Pacquet [sic] to Bengal last autumn from England – I received these letters, from my Aunt Mrs. Mc.Laine of Lochbuy, Brother Charles, and Capt. Lundin of Auchy.; all of which were wrote before I sailed from England, and which I should have received there. —

May 19.
There was a very Grand General Subscription Union Ball and Supper, given this Evening at St. George's Gardens; every one being obliged, by the Rules and Regulations made, to appear Masqued [sic] and in character till the Dancing commenced; – I went in the character of a Highlander, dressed and accoutred in the full and Complete Highland Garb; which I procured from Lieut. Geo. Mc.Kenzie of the 75th. Highland Regiment – I danced with Miss Rose. —
