Capt. Spry, Lieut.
Tait, and Myself waited on General Medows, to return him thanks for the
interest and concern he had taken in our late Promotions; — He
received us very civilly and wished us joy. — We waited also on
Colonel Abercromby and Brigadier Genl. Nilson.

Apl. 7. I did Duty
for the first time as Captain in the 77th.
Regt.; – having sat this day as President of a Regimental
Court–Martial.
Apl. 8.
I wrote to Major Skelly and Capt. Madan letters of thanks.
Apl. 14.
I did Duty as Captain in the Garrison for the first time – being Captain
of the Day, and in consequence, having the command and charge of all the
Guards in Garrison; the Detail of which, is upwards of Five Hundred Men,
that march off the Grand Parade daily: – The Field Officer of the Day
and Captain on the Main Guard, have for some time past been
discontinued; – the Captain of the Day doing the Duty of Field Officer.
Apl. 18.
The English Gentlemen in Bombay Gave a most elegant Ball and Supper to
all the Ladies and Gentlemen of the Settlement, in honor of St. George
the Tutelar Saint of England: – the Ball and supper was Given in a
temporary Garden, fitted up for the purpose, in a very neat Elegant
stile [sic] on the Esplanade, and called St. George's Gardens.
