There was a Ball Given by the Governor in honor of His Majesty's Birth
Day -- Being Captain of the Day and obliged to take charge of the Main
Guard at night, I could not go to the Ball which was given at the
Government House. —
June 16.
Our Major, Brevet Lt. Colonel Stirling, and
several other Officers lately appointed to our Regiment, arrived at
Bombay from Madras &c.: — Capts. Smith and Gray some little time before. —
June 18.
I received letters this day from Bengal from my old acquaintance (and
last Captain in the late 71st. Regt.), Capt. Duncanson lately
appointed to the 77th. Regiment; informing me
that his bad state of Health obliged him to return to Europe by the
Northumberland Indiaman for the recover of his Health.
