Introduction |
CreditsThe preparation and production of the Seringapatam 1799 web site has been dependant upon the advice, assistance and support of a wide range of institutions, organisations and individuals in Australia, India and Britain. In the first instance, Macquarie University Library funded my research trip to India in March 1999. This allowed me to retrace Lachlan Macquarie's movements in southern India in 1799 - and, in particular, to visit key historical sites at Srirangapatna (Seringapatam) and Siddapura (Seedapore). Secondly, invaluable support was provided by the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka - including the provision of official tour guides and accommodation. Lastly, the Mitchell Library, (Sydney) generously allowed me to transcribe the text of Lachlan Macquarie's 1799 journal and letter(s) describing the events that culminated in the final assault against Seringapatam on 4 May 1799. However, the real success of this project has been dependent upon the advice, support and ongoing interest of the following individuals:
INDIA My thanks is extended to all these individuals, as well many other correspondents who have contacted me with additional details. However, any errors in the transcription of the original texts, or misrepresentation of the facts, biographical details, or information associated with the events of 1799, are entirely my own.
