October

Thursday 7th. Octr. !
The second Parramatta Fair was held this day – and I went up early this morning in my Carriage accompanied by Secry. Campbell and Brigade Major Antill to see it, returning to Sydney to Dinner.

Saty. 9th. Octr. !!!
This forenoon The Earl Spencer Convict Transport Ship commanded by Capt. Wm. Mitchell anchored in the Harbour from England, from whence she sailed on the 2d. of June last, touching only at Madeira which she left 2d. of July. — She brings 196 male Convicts – wt. a Guard of one Subn. (Ensign Bicknell) & 38 men of the 73d., together wt. several Free Settlers, and one asst. Surgeon (Mr. Young) for the Colony. I have received Public Dispatches by the Earl Spencer, and also a great many Private Letters from my Friends at home, all of which contain good news. By this conveyance I am informed, tho' not officially, of the certainty of my being appointed a Major General in a large Brevet made by the Prince Regent on the 4th. of June last. —

I have also received a full and particular account from my dear Brother Charles of his being happily united in marriage to Miss Marrianne [sic] Willison, a highly accomplished young Lady, wt. a Fortune of £12000. — This happy event took place on [date omitted in text: 15 June 1812]

I have likewise heard of my Nephew Hugh having succeeded to a Majority in the 77th. lately without Purchase – and that he is likely to be still fit for Service.

Accounts have been received by this oppy. of Murdh. Lochbuy's being married to a Daughter of Dond. Mc.Laine Drimnins, and of Flora Lochbuy being married to Dr. Allan Maclain in Mull !!! —

My dear Mrs. Macquarie received the mournful accounts of the Death of her good old Aunt Mrs. Campbell of Corwhin, in Wigmore Street London; but which event might naturally have been looked for from her advanced age! —

Thursday Octr. 21st.
I went up in the Carriage this forenoon to Parramatta, accompanied by Capt. Antill & Mr. Meehan, to view the works carrying on there and mark out some new Streets; which having done, we returned to Sydney to Dinner! —

Friday 29th. Octr. 1813 !!!
I reviewed the 73d. Regt. this morning (for the first time) dressed in my Full Uniform as Brigadier General. — I entertained the Officers & a number of other Gentlemen at Dinner! — L.M.
