Wedy. 25th.
We had a most violent Gale of Wind (or Hurricane) at Sydney - which lasted for about half an hour and did considerable damage; — a great many Trees having been torn up by the Roots, and two Boats overset in Port Jackson, by which unfortunately three men were drowned. —

Sunday 29th. Septr. 1811!!! —
The Ship Admiral Gambier Convict Transport commanded by Capt. Sindrie, with Ensigns Holmes & Wentworth & a Detachment of 30 Soldiers of the 73d. Regt. as a Guard, having on board 197 Male Convicts from England, anchored this afternoon between 4 and 5 OClock in Sydney Cove, having sailed from England finally on the 12th. of May - touching at Rio, which she left on the 29th. of July. —

By this arrival I have received the most afflicting and distressing intelligence of the death of my most beloved and deservedly revered dear good & amiable Mother! — She breathed her last on the Evening of the 29th. of Novr. last, at her own House at Oskamull at the advanced age of Eighty two, esteemed, beloved and respected by all who knew her. — She was interred at Kilvickewan, and buried in the same Grave with her Husband and three sons on the 5th. of December 1810, with every mark of honor and respect - her Funeral being attended by all the Gentlemen, & 125 of the Commoners of Ulva & the neighbouring Country, and her own dear good Son Charles, and her Nephew Lochbuy, presiding at and arranging every thing relative to her Funeral.

This mournful & melancholy news was Conveyed to me in a Letter from my dearest Brother Charles of date 20th. Decr. 1810 - from Mull - where he fortunately had arrived on a short leave of absence from his Regt. (the 42d. then lying at Musselburgh) a few days previous to the dissolation of our good and revered aged Parent — who is now in the blessed Regions of the good & virtuous tho' we must ever deplore our loss of her!
