Friday! — By the General Orders received this day from Bengal, I
have the pleasure to find that my Nephew Hugh Maclaine has been lately
Promoted by Lord Lake to a Company in the 77th.
Regt. without Purchase, with back rank from the
3d. of July 1805, agreeably to my recent
solicitation to His Lordship in behalf of my Nephew - there being some
demur made respecting his Rank. He may now reckon himself a very
fortunate Young Man - in succeeeding thus early to a Company at 22 Years
of age and after only 8 Years Service in the Army! —
