June
June 1.
I joined the Regiment, and took up my residence at my own House on
Coolabah; I am much pleased with my Bungaloe [sic] and its situation which is
truly a very delightful one indeed, commanding a beautiful Prospect of
the Town and Harbour of Bombay, the Islands, the opposite Shore and Sea.
— I omitted in its place to mention the arrival of the first
Indiamen from England this years — vizt.
the Rockingham commanded by Captain Blanchard, [sic] which Ship arrived
in the Harbour on the 23d. of May. — I
had the pleasure of a letter from my Brother Charles by her, which
announced good accounts of himself and all my Friends at home. —
June 14.
Arrived in Harbour, the Middlesex East Indiaman Capt. Rogers. — My old Friend and acquaintance
Doctor Hector Maclean from Coll, is Surgeon of the Middlesex, from whom
I received a warm affectionate Note announcing his arrival, and
accompanying a letter from my ever good and worthy Friend Genl. Allan Maclean which afforded me much pleasure.
— I went into Town in the Evening to see my Friend Hector, whom I
found stout and hearty; I gave him an invitation to live with me during
his stay at Bombay; which he declined, but promised to be as often with
me as his business would admit of; and he was as good as his word, for
we spent a number of very merry agreeable days together at my House on
Coolabah, while the Ship lay at Bombay; and I found much pleasure in his
agreeable Society. —
