Having observed in a late Bengal Newspaper a List of Officers Names
entitled to Rohilla Prize Money, amongst which, was the name of
Lieut. John Macquarie (Son of Mc.Quarie of that
Ilk) who had been an Ensign in the Company's Service on the Bengal
Establishment but died on his Passage to Europe; I wrote on the Subject
to Colonel John Murray Auditor General in Bengal, to request of him to
recover the Prize Money due the deceas'd and remit to his Father the
amount when paid. —

Sunday. I went on a very pleasant Water Party along with Messrs. Rivett, Hardy, &c.
&c. to Trumbay on the Island of Salsette - a
very pretty place - a fine excursion, and a very jovial Party. We saw
and killed at Trumbay a very odd sort of Bird or Batt [sic] call'd by
the Natives "The Flying Fox". —
