In this major lecture, Professor Peter Greste – academic, journalist and former foreign correspondent with the BBC, Al Jazeera, Reuters and others – argues rather than providing protection, legislation that criminalises legitimate journalistic investigation, exposes whistle-blowers to prosecution, and limits the free flow of information ultimately weakens our democracy. Professor Greste will propose a model of reform for both government and industry so both are better able to serve the public and will then be joined by Fran Kelly, Australian Journalist and Chris Buckley, correspondent for the New York Times for a panel discussion.) |
