Biomechanical engineering
The Orthopaedic Biomechanics Research group is dedicated to better understanding bone and joint biomechanics, with the aim of improving surgical outcomes. Working alongside other engineers, clinicians and health professionals, and using a variety of research techniques including mechanical and kinematic testing, medical imaging, computational analysis, gait analysis and biomechanical modelling, the long-term aim is to improve patient outcomes through improved implants and surgical techniques.
Areas of particular interest (and potential PhD projects) include: implant design, surgical planning, bone remodeling following prosthesis implantation, joint biomechanics before and after surgery.
