The Macquarie MD is designed for students with a high level of achievement in tertiary study, who engage in a variety of experiences and activities; have the interpersonal skills desirable in a medical student and doctor; and the resilience, commitment and desire to help improve the health of Australian and global communities.
Application process
Applicants should follow the below steps.

Entry is competitive. GPA and GAMSAT/MCAT scores of candidates selected for interview are likely to be significantly higher than the minimum entry requirements. Please note that prerequisites in Human Anatomy and Human Physiology are no longer required for admission, however these are areas of assumed knowledge for commencing students. 4. If selected, you will need to attend and perform a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI). All domestic applicants residing in Australia must be available to attend an interview on Saturday 28 September 2024. In 2024 interviews will be conducted face-to-face. International applicants must be available during June, August and October - interviews will be conducted in 3 rounds via Zoom or similar platform. 6. Successful applicants will be made offers, with some offers being conditional. Final results need to be checked and offer conditions met by applicants. 8. Meet compliance proceduresAfter accepting your offer, you need to meet compliance procedures before enrollment; for example inherent requirements, immunisation, criminal record check, working with children check, first aid certificate. 9. Accept or decline your offerOffers need to be accepted or declined online as instructed (if applicable). 10. Receive welcome emailSuccessful applicants are sent the Macquarie MD welcome email with detailed information, including instructions for enrollment, NSW Health requirements and timetable information. |
Adjustment factors and Indigenous Australian Pathway
Adjustment Factor Schemes
The following applicants will automatically receive a three per cent adjustment to their weighted GPA:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians (domestic applicants)
- Rural (domestic applicants)
- Macquarie University Bachelor of Clinical Science graduates (domestic and international applicants).
If applicants belong to two or more of the above categories, a maximum five per cent adjustment will be applied to the weighted GPA.
Indigenous Australian Pathway
As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicant, you can apply through the standard pathway or the Indigenous Australian Pathway.
Through the Indigenous Australian Pathway your application will be individually assessed by staff at Walanga Muru, the University's Indigenous office, and the faculty. You will automatically receive a three per cent adjustment to your weighted GPA, submission of GAMSAT results is optional, and you will receive guidance during the application and interview process. You will need to achieve a minimum weighted GPA of 5.0 out of 7.0.

Deferrals
An offer of a place is made for a specified year only. Deferral of offers is not granted. Applicants who do not want or are unable to accept their offer of a place must reapply if they wish to be considered for the following year.
Program transfer
Students commencing a medical program at any Australian or New Zealand medical school are expected to complete their program at their chosen university. Transfer of enrolment between medical programs is not normally approved. Applicants should contact medicine@mq.edu.au if they have exceptional circumstances.
