Welcome to new staff
Ben Davies is joining the Department as senior research officer working with Professor Katherine Demuth and her team.
Sarah Forget started as Scholarly Teaching Fellow in Translation and Interpreting in January, also with responsibility for the Translation Office.
Dr Susan Hoadley joins the Department as Lecturer in the undergraduate program as well as in the academic literacy team.
Dr Shiva Motaghi Tabari and Dr Vera Williams Tetteh are joining Professor Ingrid Piller’s ARC Discovery Project as postdoctoral research fellows investigating everyday intercultural communication in multilingual and multicultural Australia. This sociolinguistic project aims to discover how fluent English speakers interact with people who have limited proficiency. Both Shiva and Vera received their PhDs in the department. Shiva received her PhD in 2017 for her thesis about “Bidirectional Language Learning in Migrant Families”. The thesis won the 2017 Michael Clyne Prize for the best postgraduate research thesis in immigrant bilingualism and language contact. Vera received her PhD in 2016 for her thesis about “Language, Education and Settlement: A Sociolinguistic Ethnography on, with, and for Africans in Australia”. The thesis was the runner-up for the 2016 Michael Clyne Prize award.
