Summary

Macquarie has several key online systems you will need to use during your time at here. This module will outline and introduce to you to these systems and give you an overview to their uses. We will also look at how to find help relating to these systems and several helpful guides that will help you.

Note on Login Details

At Macquarie most online services can be accessed using your OneID, which is your student number or email and your OneID password. If you have not performed this yet, you can use the First Time Login via this link: https://mypassword.mq.edu.au/index.php?screen=MQInitPW. To manage other aspects of your OneID access, such as resetting the password, follow this link: https://oneid.mq.edu.au/

The one exception to this rule is eStudent which uses your student number and the password you used to register for eStudent. If you need help with your eStudent password, you will need to contact IT Help at http://mq.edu.au/pubstatic/public/redirect/?id=40826.

Online systems

eStudent

eStudent is where most of your student administration will take place, from enrolling into units and classes, checking your student fees, finding out your semester results and confirming and applying to graduate. This is one of the most important systems for you to monitor, as it will be up to you to perform many of the functions beyond your first year, such as enrolling into classes and units. It is also the best place to check whether you are on track with your degree by looking through your Course Details section.

iLearn

iLearn is where your academic unit content will be accessed from. This includes lecture notes, discussion and participation forums, as well as tutorial/practical/seminar activities. You can also access iLectures, which are audio or video recordings of your lectures. The availability of iLectures is up to each unit convener, so don’t presume that they’ll be offered. In addition, each unit will be different in their use of iLearn, so make sure you pay close attention to your unit guide to ensure you understand what is required of you.

Gmail and Google Apps

Upon enrolment, each student will receive an email address powered by Gmail and this serves as your official email address for all correspondence with the University. This includes emails regarding communication between you and other students, tutors and lecturers, and your Mentors, as well as administrative and support staff. It is also where you will receive Library notices for books, OneHelp requests, and official updates and announcements from Macquarie University.

This email can be accessed like an ordinary Gmail account by using gmail.com or email.mq.edu.au by using your full email address using the following format: firstname.lastname@students.mq.edu.au and your OneID password. More information can be found at: https://wiki.mq.edu.au/display/gmail/About
