Chief Operating Officer appointed

Mr Tim Beresford
Mr Tim Beresford

It gives me great pleasure to advise that Mr Tim Beresford has been appointed Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, effective 29 February 2016. Mr Beresford will join us to take over from Dr Paul Schreier, who will depart the University on 4 March.

Mr Beresford has extensive experience as a senior leader in government, financial services, professional services and the not-for-profit sector. Since 2011, he has held the role of Executive Director Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and is one of two Executive Directors reporting to the CEO. In that role, he is responsible for strategic leadership of tourism policy, winning foreign direct investment, promoting international education and overseeing the Export Market Development Grant program. Prior to this, he served as First Assistant Secretary, Social Policy Division in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and co-led negotiation and delivery of the National Health Reform Agreement with all states and territories.

Tim has more than 18 years’ experience and a strong record of achievement in business, including six years at Westpac Banking Corporation and 10 years as a management consultant working mainly for McKinsey & Co. He is a former Menzies Scholar and holds a Master of Philosophy (International Relations) from the University of Cambridge, as well as bachelor degrees in Law and Economics from the University of Sydney.

Given his substantial insight and expertise on matters international, and the success of the temporary reporting line for Macquarie International into the Chief Operating Officer, that arrangement will be made permanent. Accordingly, the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) will be disestablished.

I am certain that Tim will make an outstanding contribution to our University as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and I look forward to welcoming him to campus.

With all good wishes.
