Macquarie has seen considerable transformation since we first opened our doors more than 50 years ago: from humble beginnings as an agricultural plot to a university pioneering the way we teach, conduct research and make a global impact.
And when it comes to our campus infrastructure, the Property team is matching the University’s approach to transformative learning with a contemporary approach to the design of our workplace, learning and community spaces.
Director of Property, Mark Broomfield, says more than $60 million has been devoted to the completion of more than 100 projects across campus this year.
“The projects are a mix of upgrades and expansions of our teaching and research facilities, as well as some far-horizon works that will improve the day-to-day student and staff experience of being on campus,” says Mark.
The commencement of the E7A project earlier this year exemplifies the work the team is doing around campus.
“The upgrade of E7A is an example of the most significant change in the refurbishment and upgrade strategy the University has seen in almost 40 years and heralds a new ‘whole of building’ rejuvenation approach to our buildings,” says Mark.
Mark, who’s looking forward to sharing the future of the development with exhibition-goers, says staff will be excited to see what else is planned.
“The vision for the rejuvenation of our ‘Campus Heart’, commonly known as the Central Courtyard, will be revealed to everyone at the all-staff exhibition,” he says. “Macquarie’s campus is unique, and staff take great pride in its natural beauty and the sense of community it fosters. The Campus Heart project will further enhance this strong sense of community.”
Mark adds that the unveiling won’t stop there: “We’ll also be introducing staff to the new front entry we have planned for the Herring Road entrance by the train station.”
