TEDxMacquarieUniversity returns for its fifth year on 26 September with this year’s theme Empower Now. Run in the majority by Macquarie University students, the all-day event follows a series of inspiring and motivating presentations, where speakers are allowed a maximum of 18 minutes to deliver ‘ideas worth spreading’ in their chosen field.
This year’s keynote speakers include Ellie Laing, an award-winning SBS TV news reporter who has covered an array of major national events, and Kathy Kelly, inspirational speaker and co-founder of the Thomas Kelly Youth Foundation, which was created following the tragic death of her 18-year-old son Thomas from an unprovoked attack in Kings Cross.
Other exciting speakers include the world’s top kidney transplant surgeon Dr Jeremy Chapman, wholefoods and nutritional specialist Harry Lancaster, Australian sporting legend Katrina Webb, inspiring entrepreneur Jack Delosa, and our very own Professor Sakkie Pretorius.
In addition to speakers, there will be musical performances featuring artists such as Aria award-winning A Capella group Idea of North and Triple J’s Buchannan.
