Temporary closure of F7 car park

The University will shortly commence construction of a 4500kva electrical chamber substation on Research Park Drive opposite Macquarie University Hospital, which will require the temporary closure of the F7 car park.

About the project

When complete, the substation will be an essential piece of Ausgrid’s infrastructure to support our Campus Master Plan. It will provide power for the next 50 years to 50,000m2 of new science and medical research floor space and contribute to a reduction in long-term campus electricity costs.

The F7 car park entry and exit will be reconfigured to create a threshold to the substation and also improve the circulation of the car park and access to Building F7B. A new pedestrian footpath, landscaping and street lighting will be provided on the Research Park Drive frontage.

Construction will commence late July and take around 10 months to complete. The first phase of work will require the F7 car park to be closed. The disabled parking spaces will not be available during this time however six new alternative disabled parking spaces will be available in the C1 car park at the rear of the Security Building. People who require assistance as a result of these changes should contact Campus Wellbeing, Health and Safety or Security Services.

Once the site work and building shell is completed, the F7 car park will re-open for general use, currently expected late November 2015.

The entire project is anticipated to be completed by April 2016.
