Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite from the Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, has been appointed by the Minister for Health and Minister for Sport, the Hon. Sussan Ley MP, as a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC) Research Committee for the triennium July 2015-June 2018.
This peak body in Australia advises the Council on matters relating to medical and public health research. It also makes recommendations to the Council on the assistance provided from the Medical Research Endowment Account.
“I am excited and honoured to have been chosen by the Minister to join NHMRC’s Research Committee,” said Professor Braithwaite. “As a health services researcher, I hope to bring a vital perspective to the Research Council. This is not so much recognition for me, as a testament to all the wonderful people with whom I’ve researched and taught with over the years, and particularly my superb colleagues and staff at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation.
“This comes at a marvellous time—just when my home university, Macquarie, has formed a new Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and there are exciting plans for new teaching programs and research studies,” he added.
