Notice the chill in the air this morning? Winter is well and truly here. But while that means shorter days and colder mornings, it also means the Soup Kitchen is back for another season!
For some, this day has not come soon enough. May’s unseasonable weather saw social media light up with posts calling for an early return to winter’s saving grace. However, as Executive Head Chef, Peter Brewty explains, opening early was not a simple case of throwing up the roller door.
“Running the Soup Kitchen means producing up to 150 litres of soup per day,” said Peter. “In 2014, the team served more than 8000 portions of soup and we expect to be just as busy this year.”
Chef also promises a few new flavours will be added to his soup repertoire this year. The top soup variety is always tightly contested and with a few new flavours yet to emerge, Chef expects this winter to be another close race for the top spot.
The Soup Kitchen opened today with tomato soup (a firm favourite among soup devotees), and tomorrow, potato and leek is on the menu. Pre-ordered take home packs are also available. Soup is just $5 for a takeaway cup, including a piece of crusty Turkish bread.
