Have you ever spotted litter on campus and thought ‘someone should clean that up’? The Vice-Chancellor noticed too, and is now helping lead the charge to keep our campus clean.
The annual cost to clean up litter on campus is in the vicinity of $250,000. To combat this unnecessary expense and improve the amenity of our campus grounds, Sustainability have launched a new waste and litter campaign, Clean and Green.
“The physical environment of our campus forms a significant part of our domestic and international appeal,” said Vice-Chancellor, Professor S Bruce Dowton. “This campaign seeks to preserve and enhance this important part of our identity.”
Sustainability Officer Belinda Bean says Clean and Green is inspiring a vision of a campus community that proactively minimises litter and maximises reuse and recycling efforts.
“All garbage from the ‘one size fits all’ bins are sorted at a materials recovery facility, diverting approximately 75% of our waste from landfill,” said Belinda.
Help keep our campus clean by joining the Litterati. When you find litter on campus:
- Snap it on Instagram
- Tag it using #litterati and #waste_type (eg. #litterati #plastic) to help identify problem spots
- Bin it to keep our campus clean and green.
