This Wednesday, 11 March, around 30 mostly uniformed police will be visiting the campus, but there’s no need for alarm!
The police team are all supervisors from the Local Area Command, who will be touring the campus as part of one of their regular training days.
Campus Security Manager John Durbridge says it’s extremely beneficial to the University to have these police supervisors as familiar as possible with our campus.
“Our University is a very safe place compared to wider society, but with 40,000 students we have the population of a pretty large country town, so it’s natural that from time to time police will need to attend to help out in some capacity,” he says. “If their supervisors have personally been on campus and understand a little about us they can respond much more effectively, and help us keep the campus a safe place for our community.”
