ERA is a comprehensive evaluation that considers the entire output of Australian universities’ research efforts. The Macquarie representatives are among 149 distinguished researchers (from 700 nominated) appointed to REC committees to assess and report on the quality of research in Australia.
The Macquarie REC members are:

- Professor Denise Meyerson (Humanities and Creative Arts)
- Professor Martina Mollering (Humanities and Creative Arts)
- Professor Peter Nelson (Engineering and Environmental Sciences)
- Professor Lori Lockyer (Education and Human Society)

Additionally, two Macquarie alumni and two former staff members were appointed to REC Committees. Professor Frances Separovic now of the University of Melbourne was selected for the Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences REC, and Professor Ross Homel now of Griffith University was chosen for the Education and Human Society REC. Former MGSM Professor, Richard Dunford, now at the University of Newcastle, will be a member of the Economics and Commerce REC, and former Faculty of Science and Engineering Professor, Igor Shparlinski, now at UNSW, has been appointed to the Mathematics, Information and Computing Sciences REC.
Australian Research Council (ARC) Chief Executive Officer, Professor Aidan Byrne, said he was delighted to have such a strong group from Australia and overseas participating in the ERA process in 2015.
