Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Jim Lee, and academic colleagues from three Faculties recently formed a 10-person delegation to engage with leading higher-education institutions throughout Indonesia.
“It’s always good to have robust and vigorous academic collaborations with your nearest neighbours,” said Professor Lee.
Five memoranda of understanding and one student articulation agreement strengthening academic and research collaborations were signed with several of Indonesia’s top public and private universities in strategic cities throughout the archipelago. Activities included meetings with vice-chancellors, senior academics, and senior government administrators; discussions with government scholarship bodies; lectures and workshops to staff and prospective students; research presentations; and a well-attended alumni reception in Jakarta which attracted more than 80 proud Macquarie alumni.
Professor Lee says the involvement of engaged, research-active, and internationally minded academics willing to promote their research, their faculty, and the wider University was critical to the mission’s success.
The delegation sought to create institutional links and further our reputation in areas including accounting, policing and security, engineering, and international relations.
“The next stage in sustainably building the University’s international footprint is encouraging our students to engage more deeply in the southeast Asian region through our many wonderful international programs,” said Professor Lee.
