The Distinguished Professor award is the highest academic honour Macquarie can bestow on a member of our academic community, recognising professors who have made an outstanding contribution to their field of scholarship or discipline and to the University.
“Macquarie University has an enviable reputation for research excellence and achievement,” said Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sakkie Pretorius. “While the extent of its achievements belie the University’s youthfulness, they are an accurate reflection of the agility and audacity we have shown over the first 50 years of our history.”
The recipients of the 2014 Macquarie University Distinguished Professor Award are:
Professor Lesley Hughes, Faculty of Science
Professor Ian Paulsen, Faculty of Science
Professor Anne Castles, Faculty of Human Sciences
Professor Katherine Demuth, Faculty of Human Sciences
Professor Simon Turner, Faculty of Science
Professor David Christian, Faculty of Arts
Professors Ian Paulsen and Professor David Christian, both recipients of the Distinguished Professor title were also recognised for their work winning Macquarie University Research Awards.
“Professor Paulsen is our newly-recognised ARC laureate, and Professor Christian’s work in Big History is having enormous global impact,” says Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sakkie Pretorius. “Both have contributed an enormous amount to the University and indeed society, as well as being ‘black belts’ in their fields.”
