Associate Professor Kerry Sherman from the Department of Psychology has been awarded the Distinguished International Affiliate Award from the American Psychological Association (APA), Division 38.
This is highest honour given by the APA to non-North American health psychologists, and is the equivalent of a Fellow status for North American members.
“My area of expertise looks at the psychological aspects of breast cancer, including understanding how people cope knowing they are at increased risk for developing the disease,” said Kerry. “My research looks at developing ways to help people better manage the overall experience of being diagnosed with cancer and the long term consequences of this disease.”
“Those who have received the award in the past are all very well respected health psychology researchers and practitioners,” said Kerry, who was nominated by the President of the Health Psychology Division of the APA. “It’s not only wonderful to have your research recognised in other countries, but it further enhances the reputation of Macquarie and raises awareness of the type of work we do.”
