Registrations are now open for Learning and Teaching Week 2014. Academics from all departments and disciplines, professional staff working in the learning and teaching space, and special guests from the University and beyond will come together to share new projects, ideas and innovations, and discuss new developments in higher education. More than 60 sessions will be presented in a variety of formats: from traditional papers and keynotes with invited speakers, to hands-on workshops, technical demonstrations, and dynamic ‘nano’ sessions.
Less is More
This year’s theme, ‘Less is More’, is intended as a provocation: can we develop an effective ‘teach less, learn more’ approach to our practice through a pedagogy that promotes motivated, active, and empowered learning in our students? Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) Professor Sherman Young will address this question as part of his much-anticipated Learning and Teaching Strategy Update. Read and discuss Sherman’s preliminary thoughts on the Teche blog, and continue the debate on the Future of University Teaching for your chance win a prize for your question.
Partners and co-creators of their learning
Four of our merit scholars will talk about their own experiences and expectations of learning and teaching on The Student Voice panel, and the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) finalists – PhD and MPhil students from across all four faculties who get just 180 seconds to successfully pitch their research – will present to the audience.
New in 2014, Learning and Teaching Week will also host a post-conference drinks and poster awards session at the Art Gallery – providing a relaxed, convivial opportunity to debrief – or to continue the discussion.
