More than 1000 students met with dozens of potential employers and faculty representatives to learn more about internships, vacation roles, graduate opportunities and postgraduate pathways at the Session 2 Careers Fair last Friday.
“In an uncertain labour market, it’s heartening to see so many employers on campus seeking our student talent,” said Career and Employment Service Manager Julie Doherty. “Brand awareness is very important to our students and it means a great deal to have employers visit them.”
This year employers brought staff who are also Macquarie Alumni, to share their experiences first-hand.
Bachelor of Media graduate Stephanie Hunter and Bachelor of Commerce graduate Luke Fox said they were glad to be back at Macquarie to share their experience and the knowledge they’ve gained with multinational media and digital marketing communications company Dentsu Aegis Network.
“Hopefully we’ve given some good direction to current students,” said Stephanie.
Second year Law/Commerce student Emily Tchea said the experience was a great opportunity to build industry contacts and speak first hand with potential employers.
“I had a great time mingling with employers and gaining an idea of what the real world has to offer,” said Emily.
Each faculty also had a presence, encouraging our students to consider postgraduate study as part of their career path. The faculty of Arts also sponsored a booth that allowed small-to-medium employers of Arts graduates to attend.
