Student teams innovate at Univative

While most of our students are on a well deserved break, a group of 25 young innovators have won two categories at Univative – an inter-university competition that challenges teams of students from different disciplines to develop solutions to genuine problems posed by professional organisations.

“We are over the moon to be the winning team,” said Emily Chan, whose team won White Ribbon’s challenge to create a youth-targeted initiative to prevent violence against women. “We have developed skills to help both personally and professionally, and we learned so much about teamwork.”

Working in teams, students from Faculties of Arts, Science, Human Sciences and Business and Economics had only four weeks to devise solutions for five challenges posed by White Ribbon, Dentsu Aegies Network, NSW Trade and Investment, EY, ClickView, and Accor.

“The challenge and experience has been fun, rewarding and undoubtedly equipped me with skills that will be essential in the workforce,” added Engineering student, David Tran.

“Everyone is a winner in Univative,” said Career Development Consultant, Serene Lin-Stephens. “Every participant walks away with skills transformation whilst making a real difference.”

During the 2013 competition, one of our Law/Business students was offered a summer internship at EY following the competition, which later led to a graduate position” she added.
