Recording third party material using Echo 360

The University had previously advised that Echo 360 must be paused at points during a lecture where content belonging to another party is included e.g. when a segment of a video is played or an image is displayed on screen for recordings capturing vision.

This position has been reviewed and lecturers can now continue recording their lecture when third party material is played or displayed.

Australian copyright law contains a number of licences and exceptions that allow educational institutions such as Macquarie to use other people’s material for educational purposes without having to seek the permission of the copyright owner.

It is the University’s view that these licences and exceptions apply to the recording of third party material used in lectures.
