Tired of traffic jams, red lights and looking for a park? Why not give public transport a try? Not sure where to start? Try these suggestions:
- Start small
Each trip you take on public transport instead of driving makes a difference to your environmental impact. Why not start with just one or two trips a week? - Take advantage of change
If you move house, take the opportunity to make a change in your travel habits. If you used to drive, then it could be the perfect time to investigate public transport options. It could be quicker and easier than you think - Check out the routes and timetables
Our Getting to Macquarie website provides a trip planner to make planning your trip easy. - Park & Ride
Park and Ride facilities are carparks with connections to public transport. Contact your local council to find one near you
And best of all, if you’re a Macquarie University fixed term and permanent staff member, then you are eligible to join our Staff Travel Loan Scheme.
It works like this
Macquarie University purchases an annual or quarterly MyMulti or MyTrain ticket on the staff member’s behalf. The staff member is given the ticket and the cost is recovered in fortnightly payments, as an after-tax payroll deduction, in an interest-free loan arrangement.
Salary deductions occur on a fortnightly basis. Quarterly (90 day) passes will have deductions over 6 pay periods, whilst yearly (365 day) passes have deductions over 26 pay periods.
Still not convinced?
- A quarterly MyTrain ticket gives you the equivalent of approximately 2 free weekly tickets, whilst a yearly MyTrain ticket will give you the equivalent of approximately a massive 12 free weekly tickets
- No more queuing at the ticket office
- Tickets are registered so they can be replaced if lost or stolen
- No wasted time looking for a parking space
- And most importantly, you’ll be doing your bit to help reduce greenhouse emissions.
Applications close on Friday 13 June 2014 for ticket start dates between 1 July and 31 July 2014. Late applications cannot be accepted after this date.
For more information, including an application form, visit the Staff Travel Loan Scheme website.
Opal Card
Macquarie University station is operational for the Opal Card and the system has been expanded to include some associated bus routes, however the Opal Card is not covered under the Travel Loan Scheme. We suggest that you make your own assessment of paper tickets against the Opal system and decide which suits your needs best.
