University Avenue will be closed on Wednesday 11 June to one lane only from Eastern Road to the entrances of Gumnut Cottage, Cochlear and the Australian Hearing Hub as part of the University Avenue Reconstruction. This will mean that only traffic heading in a western direction (away from Herring Road) will be able to continue along University Ave in this section.
The key elements of traffic management and changes during construction will be:
- University Avenue will remain open for west-bound through traffic only
- All east-bound through traffic will be diverted to Macquarie Drive
- Access to the Australian Hearing Hub, Cochlear and Gumnut Cottage will be maintained on University Ave from both directions; however, east-bound movements from the Australian Hearing Hub/Gumnut/Cochlear entry will be blocked
- Access to C2/C3/E1 car parks will be via Macquarie Drive through the C1 car park or E1 car park via Eastern Road.
- Access to Security will only be via Macquarie Drive for a period of time.
Pedestrian access changes can be seen on the below image. There will be no through access to and from University Ave via the C1, C2, C3 or E1 car parks.
The partial closure of University Ave will remain until the project is completed. It will take around 30 weeks to finish all the work and there will be changes to existing traffic flows throughout this period.
