Bruce Mortimer | Director, Alumni Relations
How long have you been at Macquarie?
I moved from Melbourne to Sydney to join Macquarie in October 2013. It’s my goal to renew and revamp Macquarie’s approach to alumni engagement in its Jubilee year. I’ve met some fantastic, committed colleagues across the University and together we are working towards deepening the engagement we have with alumni.
How have you found living in Sydney?
It’s been fun exploring a new city. I’ve really enjoyed Sydney’s warm and sunny weather (even though it’s been a bit wetter than I expected).
Favourite film, book or TV show?
I enjoy Game of Thrones. I’ve read the books and I watch the tv series. It’s a great way to unwind and disengage from reality. As a history graduate, the medieval-esque setting appeals to me, even though it’s fictional.
What do you do in your spare time?
Since moving to Sydney I’ve joined a tennis club after coming out of ‘semi-retirement’ last year. It’s been a great way for me to meet people. Coincidentally, I’ve discovered that several of the tennis players in the club are part of the alumni community I’m trying to engage! I also joined the Macquarie Sport and Aquatic Centre to improve my fitness for competition.
Favourite place to spend a spare five minutes at Macquarie?
Walking along Wally’s Walk or sitting in the Campus Hub looking out over the lake.
What would you want to learn if given the chance to learn instantly?
To be able to speak Chinese fluently.
