Macquarie places emphasis on building career skills, offering multiple opportunities for practical experience in a variety of classroom settings. Students work towards teacher accreditation as required by Australian Children’s Education & Care Authority (ACECQA) and NSW Education Standards Authority.
At Macquarie, we also offer Participation and Community Engagement (PACE) programs that provide opportunities for undergraduate students to gain practical experience by working with industry partners on mutually beneficial projects. Students may be eligible to apply for an approved overseas or interstate placement.
Teach in our simulated classrooms and science labs or work with emerging technologies that are pushing the boundaries of education. You’ll also gain access to our internationally recognised on campus Early Childhood Family and Study Centre, Mia Mia, and MUSEC (the Macquarie University Special Education Centre) where you can work with children K-6 with special needs.
"Macquarie has prepared me extremely well for my chosen career, which is to become a secondary teacher of Japanese and English. The education department specifically tailors classes to the needs of students, and they also provide advice about which teaching associations to join and information about networking opportunities.
One of the highlights of my course was studying in Japan, where I had to combine my skills in teaching, English and Japanese in an unfamiliar context. Using those skills in an authentic situation was the best practice I could have had."
