Application tips and FAQs

Studying a double degree – at either a bachelor (undergraduate) or master (postgraduate) level – allows you to explore two areas of interest simultaneously, reduces the overall duration of your studies and saves on tuition costs. And by earning two qualifications, you enhance your employability – gaining expertise in two distinct fields broadens your career opportunities. For example, you can double your qualifications and skill set by completing two master degrees in just two years!

A double degree is structured differently to two individual degrees. It allows you to complete the mandatory requirements of both degrees at the same time, leveraging overlapping core and elective units. At the end of your studies, you’ll receive a separate testamur for each degree.

Completing a double degree usually takes less time than pursuing two degrees consecutively. For instance, a single bachelor degree typically takes three years, but a double bachelor degree can be completed in four to five years. Similarly, in most cases, a double master degree can be completed in the same two-year duration as a single master degree.

The cost of a double degree is generally lower than that of two individual degrees. As the double degree is completed in a shorter timeframe and includes overlapping units that count towards both degrees, the overall tuition fees are reduced.

The workload per session remains consistent with that of a single degree, as you’ll typically study four units per session, whether in a single or double degree.

A double degree significantly boosts your employability by equipping you with a broader skill set and knowledge base. This versatility makes you more attractive to employers, as you bring expertise in two complementary fields, which can open up a wider range of career opportunities.

Admission requirements vary depending on the specific combination of degrees. Generally, you’ll need to meet the entry criteria for both degrees, which may include specific academic scores, prerequisite subjects or other requirements.

While many combinations are available, not all degrees can be paired. However, Macquarie offers a wide range of double degree options at both bachelor and master levels, so you’re sure to find a combination that aligns with your career goals.
