A scholarship recognising excellence in current school leavers intending to major in Physics or Astronomy. The Dr Arthur Pryor Scholarship was established with a generous donation from Dr Arthur Pryor's family.

About the scholarship

Arthur Pryor was a brilliant student of Physics and Electrical Engineering. His career took him to the UK, New Zealand and back to Australia. He made major research contributions in under-water acoustics, neutron and thermal physics. He co-authored Thermal Vibrations in Crystallography and shared the 1964 Syme Prize with AINSE co-workers - awarded for the best science contribution in any discipline in Australia. He taught PHYS242 in its beginnings in 1985 through to 1995.

Duration

This scholarship applies for up to 3 years subject to meeting ongoing eligibility critera.

Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an Australian citizen, or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa.
  • Be a current school leaver; or have taken a gap year.
  • Have admission to and commence a Full-Time undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in Session 1 2024.
  • Be undertaking study in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences majoring in Physics or Astronomy and Astrophysics.
  • Preference will be given to students who come from regional or remote NSW.
