The purpose of the Executives in Residence Program is to host senior executives of national eminence from business, the cultural community or the public sector (including recent retirees from industry) who can:
- Facilitate the exchange and sharing of knowledge, experience and expertise in pursuit of IGAP mission,
- Provide advice on research, teaching, curriculum development and other IGAP activities,
- Promote collaboration in research, and
- Enhance the reputation of IGAP, Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance and Macquarie University.
2014 Executive in Residence
Peter Meehan, CEO of the Group of 100
3 to 9 September 2014
Peter was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Group of 100 in February 2011. The Group of 100 is the peak body for Australia's senior finance executives from the nation's major and public business enterprises with its main objective to advance Australia's financial competitiveness.
Prior to this Peter had been Australia Post's Chief Financial Officer since September 2000. His responsibilities covered financial policy and management, management of the Shared Services Division, Superannuation Group ($6b+, 50k+ members), Treasury Group, Revenue Protection and Risk Management areas. Peter was also a Board member and Trustee of the Australia Post Superannuation Scheme and a Board member of Star Track Express Pty Ltd.

Des Pearson, ex-Auditor General of Victoria

Mr. Des Pearson, FCPA is participating as IGAP's 2013 Executive in Residence from 26 30 August 2013. Des Pearson retired as the Auditor General of Victoria in December 2012. His public sector career spans over 40 years and across five jurisdictions. He has more than thirty years experience at senior, chief executive and statutory officer levels. He has primarily worked in governance, financial and program management, performance evaluation and accountability roles, including more than 21 years as an Auditor General across two jurisdictions

2012 Executive in Residence
Stephen Helberg, Executive General manager of Internal Audit of the Leightons Group
22 - 24 August 2012
Mr. Helberg was until recently the Head of Corporate Assurance for Rio Tinto Group. The corporate assurance function at Rio Tinto Group is a global function, with 12 full-time internal auditors who set the strategy, scope, methodologies and policies, with the rest of the audit execution out-sourced to a Big Four firm. The internal auditors coordinate and report on audit results. In 2007, he and his team began incrementally including other assurance activities in their work, starting with health, safety and environmental audits.
Mr Helberg has been appointed as the Executive General manager of Internal Audit at the Leightons Group from the 1st of September 2012.
He is a chartered accountant and throughout his career has held a variety of senior roles in different commercial organisations including as a senior partner at Ernst & Young.

Alex Malley, CEO of CPA Australia

Alex Malley is recognised internationally by business peers and the wider community for his innovation and independent thinking. Alex has been a CEO, Board Director, life coach, consultant, educator and benefactor in business, government, higher education and not for profit sectors.
Alex is passionate and influential on issues that matter globally to the accounting profession, business and the government sector. Underpinning his professional experience is his passion and commitment to the social benefit of voluntary service. This commitment can be seen in the diverse roles he has held, including independent chair of the audit and risk committee of the Office of Police Integrity in Victoria, board member of the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children and co-founder of the Society for Knowledge Economics.
