Collaboration Agreement with Australian Maritime College
The Centre for Workforce Futures has agreed to work with the internationally recognised Maritime College in Tasmania for 5 years within a Research Collaboration Framework. The Maritime College is part of the University of Tasmania, but it has a unique place in the Australian seafaring community. As a training and research institution, it has led the way in national, regional and global trends in crewing, ship design research and more. It has history and reputation amongst those who work at sea.
There is a shared and ongoing interest between the Centre and the College in matters of new technologies — e.g. drones in shipping, workforce planning in ports, stevedoring and off-shore shipping, new forms of work organisation, and bringing industry and the academy closer together. The College now has a customised and well-crafted campus in Sydney, in the National Maritime Museum at Darling Harbour. The Centre will explore joint programmes utilising this space.
Professor Daryll Hull, Co-Director of the Centre stated that ‘applied research and management training are obvious areas of cooperation between us, but there are also opportunities for shared research in technical areas, using the best minds from Macquarie University in engineering and information technology. This agreement opens up new avenues for multi-disciplinary projects, which combine the talents of the Centre networks and the subject matter expertise of the College in matters maritime.’
