The Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) seeks a talented researcher to conduct collaborative research on the health economy that will impact public policy debate.

Research Fellow

We are seeking a candidate experienced in economics research with an interest in health and aged care. People with quantitative skills, such as mathematics, will also be considered. The successful candidate will work directly with the Director and senior leaders, undertaking research projects within our policy evaluation team.

A key component of the role will be undertaking research in mental health, aged care, integrated care and health care financing. You will be encouraged to publish in leading academic journals and conduct research funded by competitive academic grants and by government and non-government organisations.

As the successful candidate you will undertake primary data collection, evaluate data and apply econometric techniques to analyse large panel datasets. You will also assist with writing grant applications and proposals.

This role offers excellent opportunities to develop and strengthen sophisticated skills in policy evaluation, choice modelling, and econometrics, along with project management and network development.

We actively promote career development, mentor staff, provide training and further education, and offer generous opportunities for domestic and international travel to academic conferences.

Essential selection criteria:

  • A postgraduate degree in economics or similar quantitative field with strong results. A PhD is preferred for Level B candidates.
  • Evidence of developing a research portfolio.
  • Demonstrated willingness to undertake research across a range of topic areas.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.

Experience in undertaking primary data collection (surveys, interviews and focus groups) is highly desirable but not an essential selection criterion.

About You

As the successful candidate you will have a demonstrated research interest in the health and aged care sector. You will be experienced in engaging and liaising with both government and non-government organisations and have the demonstrated ability to develop strong collaborative academic networks to explore new grant opportunities.
