Dr Tomonori Hu (NSSN Theme leader) and Dr Noushin Nasiri (NanoTech Laboratory Macquarie University) gave a combined seminar on two sensing projects to MQ Photonics. Tom presented Autonomous detection of whales at sea using infrared cameras, and  Noushin presented her group's recent work on ultraporous nanoparticle networks for light sensing to monitor UV skin exposure. It was fascinating to hear their different approaches to the challenge of sensing, and to learn about how NSSN works to link university researchers with industry. It is great that success stories as Noushin's UV skin cancer sensor can be shared with our students.
