Dr Simone De Camillis of MQ Photonics and the ARC Centre for Nanoscale BioPhotonics  gave a super-stimulating talk on super-resolution imaging using upconversion nanoparticles.  He gave a nice introduction to the different scales of interest in biology and how we can attain sub diffraction limited resolution of the features inside cells using upconversion nanoparticles as labels for specific biomarkers. In particular he introduced uSEE which is Upconversion Superlinear Excitation and Emission microscopy, which offers amazing image details.  Simone also introduced some of his current work on further improvements to lateral and depth resolution.
