PhD project - Co-designing culturally relevant end of life care in cancer

Scholarship program

PhD, full-time; Domestic applicants only (Australian citizens or permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens)

Department

Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI), Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research (CHSSR)

Project name

Co-designing culturally relevant end of life care in cancer

Project description

End of life care preferences are influenced by culture, personal context and faith. Through this research, you will have the opportunity to work within a team of health service researchers who are using novel co-design methods with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and their clinicians to tackle known deficits in end-of-life care planning in cancer services.

The mixed-methods research program will adapt existing resources to make them suitable for use with diverse consumers and relevant to the needs of cancer clinicians to guide end-of-life communication and planning. The program also provides an opportunity to develop skills in co-design, co-production and implementation science methods. The candidate will develop an original aspect of the study, selecting their focus from a range of areas relevant to the wider program of work.

We highly encourage those with strong backgrounds in health services research, psychology, oncology, clinical practice, or public health to get in contact to discuss this opportunity. Those from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in research are encouraged to apply.
