Rural residents have been shown to experience higher incidence rates of both injury-related mortality and hospitalised morbidity then urban residents, with the rate of hospitalised injury for rural residents around 1.4 times higher than that of urban residents Australia-wide in 2001-02.

This is the final report on a retrospective epidemiological study that compared the characteristics of hospitalised injury among rural and urban residents in NSW and also examined hospitalised injuries on farms in NSW. This research has created a hospitalised injury profile of both rural and urban residents of NSW, allowing targeted injury prevention strategies to be developed.
