Biography
BSc (Hons), MPH, PhD
Dr Gaston Arnolda leads the Centre for Research Excellence in Implementation Science in Oncology (CRE-ISO) funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). CRE-ISO is located in the Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science, Australian Institute of Healthcare Innovation, at Macquarie University.
Dr Arnolda worked for many years as a maternal and child health epidemiologist with New South Wales Health, in the Epidemiology Branch and as part of a perinatal unit within Statewide Services. He has extensive experience working in low resource settings in the Pacific, Asia and Africa, where he has worked as a consultant to a wide variety of international organisations including the World Health Organisation, the World Food Program, the World Bank and international Non-Government Organisations like FHI360. Broadly, he is interested in evidence informed policy and practice, and in using implementation science to improve healthcare.
Dr Arnolda has designed, implemented and analysed a range of studies from sample surveys through randomised trials, prior to recently taking an academic position with Macquarie University. He has produced over 60 peer-reviewed research outputs, including publications in the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. His specific areas of interest include neonatal respiratory support, care of the sick neonate in low resource settings, adherence to clinical practice guidelines and implementation science challenges and opportunities in oncology service provision.
